CCM Hockey to stop using Ovechkin & Russian players in marketing

CCM Hockey announced Monday it will stop using Washington Capitals star Alex Ovechkin and other Russian NHL players in its global marketing initiatives amid Russia's invasion of Ukraine.

"We are very sad to witness, like the rest of the world, what is happening in Ukraine," CCM chief executive Marrouane Nabih wrote in an email to TSN's Rick Westhead. "Although Mr. Ovechkin is not responsible for the Russian government's actions, we took the decision to not use him (or any Russian player) on any global CCM communication at this point."

CCM pays Ovechkin over $500,000 per year plus a percentage of its sales within Russia, a source told Westhead. Though the company will no longer use Ovechkin or other R…

PK Subban - Retires

P.K. Subban shared a post on Instagram: "I remember my dreams of playing in the NHL and winning a Stanley Cup, similar to the guys on the Don Cherry Rock’em Sock’em tapes at the end of every volume, with the black eyes, broken bones, and tears of joy. To this day, I still dream about it.   However, the end of this chapter is closing and after 13 years in the NHL, I have made the decision to retire.   I never looked at myself or ever felt I was “just a hockey player.” I always looked at myself as a person who happened to play hockey.  Having that perspective allowed me to enjoy every shift like it was my last, celebrate every goal with emotion, and play every game as if someone paid to watch me play who had never seen me play before.   I want to thank my parents, Karl and Maria for literally being the best people I have ever met! I have been spoiled everyday with love and support from you, and I don’t know how to put into words how grateful I am for the sacrifices you guys have made for me. I’m so fortunate to have the best and most supportive brothers and sisters I could ask for.   To all my fans that have supported me and continue to support me since the first day I stepped on to the ice, thank you! You picked me up when I was down, supported me through tough times and had my back through it all!   To an amazing league that gave me the opportunity to compete at the highest level with some of the best athletes in the world. The NHL also provided me with a platform that allowed me to give back thru my charities. A sincere thank you to the many players that I either played with or competed against who brought out the best in me. A heartfelt appreciation to the Montreal Canadians, Nashville Predators and New Jersey Devils for each representing organizations with class and integrity.   I look forward to the road ahead, and the many exciting opportunities to come. I’m excited to share what those are with you all when the time comes!   With love, appreciation, and all the happiness I could ever hope for, P.K.". Follow their account to see 1876 posts.

NHL forgets fans are the point with disastrous Stadium Series

COLORADO SPRINGS, CO. - "Three great forces rule the world: stupidity, fear, and greed." When Albert Einstein made this observation, he surely didn't have the NHL in mind. No, the league was still in its relative infancy during Einstein's life. As a league, however, it certainly has a knack for forgetting the fans are more

17-year-old junior hockey player hopes his coming out will inspire others

As Quebec Major Junior Hockey League players gear for a season they hope will change their lives, a goal-scoring 17-year-old New Brunswicker decided not to wait for the puck to drop before changing his. Yanic Duplessis, an elite-level player who was drafted by the QMJHL's Drummondville Voltigeurs in 2019, revealed he is gay earlier this week. In the hockey world, that qualifies as significant news. One of the reasons the native of Saint-Antoine, N.B., decided to step forward is to help make such announcements unremarkable. "It was a struggle for me, and it shouldn't be," he said in an interview with CBC's Quebec A.M., later adding "it shouldn't be a big deal." And for Duplessis, it was. He tells of anxiety attacks at school and calling …

The Impact of Ankle Motion on Ice Hockey Performance - Adam Virgile Sports Science

When I began writing an article on the physical qualities which are related to being an ultra-fast skater, I began with ankle dorsiflexion…which resulted in a deep dive…and, now, have found that the article would be too long to cover anything else. Without further ado, here’s a write-up on ankle dorsiflexion and on-ice performance. Ankle […]
